Topic:

Blockchain in Legal Technology Design

Abstract:

As team of UX designers and creative technologists, we know that the kind of assumptions we carry when we design solutions can affect the technology we choose to implement. But what we've also learned recently is that the kind of technology we choose can carry its own assumptions.

Specifically, applying blockchain to the legal technology and online dispute resolutions can influence the experience of digital products--for better and worse. Blockchain is a technology built on scepticism. A distributed ledger can create airtight records, but how can this technology, which is laden with a subtext of security from tampering, help people build trust and reach agreements?

Our talk will focus on the challenges we've had in implementing blockchain technology in collaborative platforms. We will cover topics like:
- when is it better to just use a database?
- What's the effect of blockchain on user experience?
- How do we make the benefits of Blockchain accessible and clear to users?
- And finally, what inspires us and makes us hopeful for future uses of this technology?
